Rihanna Glamours Woman of the Year

Last night singer Rihanna accepted Glamour’s Woman of the Year award in New York City.

Rihanna’s claim to fame came when she released her debut studio album, Music of the Sun, which peaked within the top ten of the Billboard 200 and features the Billboard Hot 100 hit single “Pon de Replay”.

Her third album had five top ten hits including three US number one hit singles. The album was nominated for nine Grammy Awards, winning Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Umbrella.”

As she slipped from the headlines she released some grainy nude pics of herself which brought her back in the spotlight for a couple of days. Just when it looked like she would slip back in to obscurity was when she, in a jealous rage, snatched the cellphone out of her then-boyfriend Chris Brown’s hand while they were driving in LA to see who was text-messaging him. A scuffle insued and she ended up with a black eye and some bruises.

Hollywood loving a victim she hit the talkshow circuit and the rest is history.

In her speech, Rihanna said,

“I am shaking right now, I am so nervous … It was a real honor to be named Glamour’s Woman of the Year, especially because I think of myself as just becoming a woman. I just turned 21 this year. Just to be mentioned in this group of women is overwhelming. I love being a part of a night where we’re celebrating women and such strong women.”

Second in line for the woman of the year award was a former Americal Idol runner-up Adam Lambert.
