The California Supreme Court respects the wishes of the citizens and upholds the ban on gay marriage.
California voters passing of Proposition 8 which banned same sex marriage in the state has been affirmed by the Supreme Court of California. Justices voted 6-1 that same sex marriage is illegal in California but lets the 18,000 marriages that were performed in the few months that the legislature allowed before the historic vote.
This ruling effectively stops future marriage between same sex couples but actually creates two classes of relationships for homosexuals. Pre-ban marriages and post-ban civil unions.
I’m sure the fight isn’t over but as it stands today there will never be more than 18,000 gay marriages in California and with the divorce rate at 50% even in heterosexual marriage the number will continue to dwindle.
California had its first gay divorce filing on June 30th 2008. Lawrence Yaeger and Alan Levy after a long 3 days of marriage filed for divorce.
This is worth a re-post. this was a report the night Prop 8 passed. Gay protestors assult a senior citizen, stomp her cross and knock her to the ground.
Get the kids in the house, were in for a wild ride tonight as the gays take to the streets.
