Miss America 2009 Singing Via Delorosa
When my wife and I sat down to watch the Miss America Pageant tonight I never expected to have a spiritual experience. The girls all seemed fairly equally matched in wit beauty and poise. They all were beautiful in the evening gown and bikini competition.
When the time for the talent competition came some of the young ladies sang and some danced, all did very well.
Then they called up Miss Indiana in the talent competition.
She is a 22-year-old University of Indianapolis student that battled a throat infection and laryngitis throughout the week. Katie Stam walked to the microphone with her proud parents looking on and sang Via Doloroso the way of suffering.
Here’s the video….
Miss America 2009 Singing Via Dolorosa
I sat in awe that this young Christian girl had taken the opportunity to sing a song about our Lord to the masses. When she was finished I was a little choked up and my wife had tears in her eyes.
She won the competition and is now Miss America for 2009. I couldn’t help but think this was a victory for Christians and Christ when we haven’t had many lately in a world that seems bound and determined to follow the liberal, anti-God activists and government officials to hell.

And, how does parading around in bikinis fit with Christian ideals? One can argue very convincinly that the entire concept of a beauty pageant is inherently contradictory to good, strong Christian values. And, yes, I am a Christian. But hypocrisy is hypocrisy no matter what camps advances it.
Come on Sharon, God made us beautiful and gave us the ability to reconize it in others. After years of preparation and being judged on several different aspects of grace, poise, intellect and talent, to me a 15 second walk across the stage in a bikini isn’t hypocrisy. After all he made us in his image and were not talking about poll dancing here.
Leave the Christian bashing to the Muslims. As Christians don’t you think we need to stand together?
If this bold young woman took this very opportunity, a beauty pageant, to spread the Gospel on national tv, then so be it.God can even use the foolish things to confound the wise. We should be so bold to “make the most of EVERY opportunity” and take a stand for Jesus Christ as this yound lady did. We shouldn’t bash her we should praise her for having the courage to do so in a time where christianity is loosely practiced and a country founded on Christ has forgotten that it once built it’s foundation on God. She wasn’t worried about what people would say or think. Praise be to the living God! She must have found favor with the Lord because she won!
Lovely! Beauty, charm, grace, courage, and my God, what a voice!!
Anyone who stands for Christ is my Sister in Christ. God bless her.
God bless her, and I hope she does tell all about our Lord Jesus Christ.
God bless America, We need to pray for our country more than ever before.
God uses all of us and our talents to get His message out to all of mankind.
How many people that have never heard of His sacrifice for our sins were able to see and hear His blessings to believers. This may cause them to ASK “Who is this Jesus?” What a great chance for believers to witness.
I applaud her for using this huge venue to bring our God to the ears and minds of so many. I did not watch the show because these types of shows make the hundreds of millions of us non perfect people feel inferior and ugly. Truth is, it’s how we look inside, not outside that matters. To me, this contestant won because she showed the world what’s on the inside, not because of her beauty.
And as for Sharon’s Bikini comment..99% of all women dress or do things for the purpose of exciting us guys, so what’s the big deal? It doesn’t make them “unholy”.
Just AWESOME!!!!
I was so proud of Katie, and I will be praying for her as she goes through this year, being a role model for young women. I also thought she sang Via Delorosa so well, that is not any easy song to sing. I had picked her out as the prettiest with the sweetest smile right from the start.
Hello,
It was on a “OLD-RUGGED Cross” that my Savior died for me, and for everyone else. Even those that curse His name, and even those that mock Him. What a lovely voice, and what a lovely women. God has given so much talent to this fantastic child of HIS. Mat she shine for a long time to come, and may she be His forevermore.
Thanks,

I stumbled upon this blog when I did a Google search for Katie’s song
that she sang at the Miss America Pageant. I wanted to send it to a
friend of mine. I was thrilled to see your comments about Katie and
wanted to share with you that Katie is truly a Christian and a wonderful
role model. She is from Seymour, Indiana, where I was born and raised and
still live. Seymour is a small town (same town John Mellencamp was raised).
So, this kind of National Recognition for one of our own excites us around
here. But, more than that, we are very proud of Katie and her accomplishments
and know that she will represent our town, our State, and our Country very
well. We could not ask for a better role model for our Miss America.
We can’t wait ’til she comes home so we can have a big “celebration” with her!
I’m so glad you were blessed with her song during the pageant. So was I.
what a buatiful voice she has and when she goes high it sounds so
good

Good Luck Maraeh! I will be rooting for you.
Sharon,
What you may not know is that the Miss America pageant is a scholorship pageant. Those girls really don’t want to parade around in bikini’s. It’s a requirement of the pageant. They enter this pageant for the chance at a college scholorship. This begins at the local level. The Miss America system requires a platform and a talent. They should remove the swimsuit requirement, but it is what it is and it’s a wonderful way for a intelligent, talented young woman to get a jumpstart at a career and a college education. Shame on you for considering that a Christian woman who models a bikini is a hypocrit. Do you really think that’s how Jesus would perceive it?
Hi miss America i will be glad to know you more besides i appreciate your effort to become miss America, God bless you all the best.
Extend my greeting to PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA.

What a cryin shame.
People calling her “Christian” and she can’t even keep here clothes on!!
I could be an angry man but I just say as the word of God does: “You sow to your flesh-you reap corruption pal!!” For God’s sake, have her keep her clothes on or not be called a Christian. You say ” O, Paul, YOU’ve just got a real problem with YOUR eyes etc…”, I say “THAT’S A MOSTLY NAKED WOMAN UP THERE, SOMEBODY CLOTHE HER!!” No wonder the U.S. is going to HELL so fast!!
SHAME!!!
AMEN
PV
