Just a Closer Walk with Thee Ruby Wilson and the Climax Jazz Band in 1995
One of the highlights of this concert, if not THE highlight, was Memphis blues singer Ruby Wilson being featured in Just a Closer Walk with Thee.
She is the undisputed Queen of Beale Street, a Memphis legend who has taken the Delta blues and her powerful, emotional, unforgettable voice worldwide. When she’s in Memphis, she often holds at B.B. King’s, the epicenter of nightclub entertainment in the Mid-South. When she’s out of town, she might be singing at the White House, or at a renowned jazz club in Switzerland, or on a luxury cruise in Asia.
Together with Dr Jack Maassen playing carillon and the Climax Jazz Band backing her, it became quite an emotional performance presented to this happy audience of about 8000 in Misono Japan.
I lived in Memphis for several years just a few blocks from BB Kings Blues Club where we saw Ruby Wilson sing regularly. Its off the subject but it made me really homesick and I thought I’d share.
