Sarah Palin portrayed Barack Obama as a dishonest politician and a risky choice for president Tuesday as she wrapped up a two-day campaign swing through Florida.
She also turned toward the economy, promising that she and Republican presidential candidate John McCain would implement a federal spending freeze and balance the nation’s budget.
Campaigning in Pensacola, Florida, Ms. Palin for the third time in three days linked Mr. Obama to a 1960s radical who helped plan bombings of the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol. She said Mr. Obama had not been truthful about his relationship with William Ayers, a university professor in Chicago who was a founding member of the Weather Underground.
In 1995, Mr. Obama was introduced as a state Senate candidate at a political gathering at Mr. Ayers’ home, one of the earliest meetings of Mr. Obama’s political career. The men also served together on a community education board.
Mr. Obama has said the two were mere acquaintances. News organizations concluded that probably understates their relationship but found no evidence that the men were close. Mr. Obama has denounced Mr. Ayers’ radical activities and has said he was unaware of Mr. Ayers’ background.
Ms. Palin, the vice presidential candidate, said she didn’t believe it.
“Wait a minute there,” she told fans. “You mean to tell me he doesn’t know he launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist?”
Her backdrop was five American flags and the St. Johns River. On a balcony, supporters had hung a banner saying, “I live on a budget, so should my government.”
Sarah Palin continues to bring up the issues with Barack Obama’s associations while the media tries to ignore the obvious questions the non-star-struck American people are asking.
